Deborah,
Thank you for getting this conversation started.
Like you I am just beginning to sort through my impressions, but I have to shout YES! about:
'We need a set of clearly labelled lounges in the conference hotel that are reserved for attendees who want to meet, so that we can say (for example) "I'll be in the Blue Room at 3:00."'
I have a horror story about a conference to remain nameless where 2,500 people attended. There were less than 100 seats, mostly on benches (cushiony, but hardly relaxing) for informal meetings. So I have to shout THANKS for all the seats, tables, couches and places to sit and have a chat.
I'd like to see a worksheet where I could pencil in my choices / places / speakers for each time-slot. I will create one and post it on Zoho in the next few days.
I was disappointed about the lack of hands on activities during most of the sessions. Plenty of Q&A, but most sessions lacked an opportunity to talk to others or play a game to deepen my understanding about what was presented. I'll find some info about the proinciples of adult learning and put it out to the list. Maybe someone lurking on the list can point us to something? I must admit I have this complaint about nearly all the conferences I attend, so session presenters, don't be despondent.
My other pet peeve cropped up many times: font size in Powerpoints. I think the minimum size for a small room is 32 pt. In long narrow rooms it's got to be a lot bigger. I can hear you thinking, but it's a screenshot. I can't change the font on a screenshot. My suggestion is to crop the screenshot, focusing our attention on the part you think most important. Then enlarge it a lot.
NTC organizers, Thank you, thank you, thank you. So much helpful information. So many interesting, informed passionate people in the same place. Keep up the good work.
