Aloha Deborah, We at the The Wild Dolphin Foundation agree that these magnificent marine mammals are sentient beings, and we are neck deep in conservation efforts on the behalf of both dolphins and whales. Interestingly, we would very much be able to make use of that PDA equipment! We use them for collecting data from various tour operators upon sightings of marine mammals. From this information we harvest demographic parameters such as migrations, life spans, birth rates, health of the stock, etc. We would like to expand our base of operators but are limited by the cost of PDA's and trained personnel to gather the data.
