Original photo by Wayne Glynn

I spent part of last week with my good buddies Allan Benamer and Jeff Tuller;  we're working on an exciting new nonprofit technology project that's still under wraps, so I won't say much about it yet.  However, I can freely report that we spent a lot of time making jokes about lolcats and variations on the theme.

"LOL" is a common internet abbreviation for "laughing out loud," and a bunch of web sites have emerged to display funny photographs of cats, presidents, walruses, and other inherently humorous animals.  The photos are accompanied by highly idiomatic captions.

Naturally, the grammar of those idiomatic captions is now being subjected to linguistic analysis and the idiom is even morphing into a real world computer language.  It's a geek thing, you know?

Meanwhile, I find myself speculating about the next development:  a lol nptech web site.  As you can see, I've taken the liberty of putting together the first captioned photo, but I will leave it to others to buy the lolnptech.org domain and start developing the site.

In this photo, I am visiting Wayne Glynn, director of information systems at Third Sector New England, who is currently on medical leave, but is expected back soon!

UPDATE:  06/12/2007

Jeff Tuller, who is one heckuva guy, has snagged the lolnptech.org domain and turned it over to me.

He scraped the photo from my blog, and embedded it as the first lolnptech image.

I firmly believe that this photo needs company. Lots of company.  (I'm not that photogenic, and I don't want the web site to feature images of me.)  If you email your lolnptech captioned snapshots to admin @ lolnptech.org, I'll be happy to post them to the new web site.  (Please - nothing illegal, nothing unethical, no hate speech, et cetera.)

Let's take this as an opportunity to have fun and build community among members of the international nonprofit technology conspiracy.

Warm thanks are due to Jeff - and thanks in advance to everyone who is planning to contribute!
