Not for the faint of heart: Selecting a fiscal sponsorship accounting application

These days, I spend a lot of time researching applications that will meet my client's fiscal sponsorship accounting needs. This is not a task for the faint of heart, because the specifications are numerous, the solutions are shockingly expensive, and the potential for spending a lot of time, energy, and money without actually improving capacity is very high...   more »

N-TEN's new executive director is a Massachusetts Technobabe

The Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network, our professional association, has chosen a new executive director:  Katrin Verclas.

Katrin is based in western Massachusetts; although she lives to far from us to be a participant in regular Boston Technobabe events, I think of her as an honorary member and sister spirit.

So N-TEN now has a Technobabe affinity group that is open to women in every region, and women in three key positions:  Lynn Lebieniec (chair of the board), the aforementioned Katrin (executive director-elect), and Holly Ross (director of programs).

How sweet it is.

N-TEN makes it easy to form affinity groups, and the Technobabes respond with alacrity

The Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network has done something really smart:  they've made it fast, easy, and free to start an online affinity group on any topic related to information and communication technology in the nonprofit sector.  The groups are powered by Golightly.

Naturally, it immediately occurred to me to start an online Technobabe group that would be open to women in nonprofit technology in any region of the world.  I'm proud to say that it is one of the larger affinity groups, with 45 members...

Vlogging at the NetSquared conference with Tom Munnecke

At TechSoup's NetSquared conference in Silicon Valley last week, I finally had a chance to meet Tom Munnecke face-to-face.  We had originally connected through the Omidyar Network - he roped me into the Uplift Academy network, and I roped him into a few of my own ideas in progress.

So there we were, sitting at a table in real life, two people and two laptops. His laptop has a built-in in video camera and recording microphone, and as we discussed Wikipedia, Tom started vlogging and encouraged me to improvise in the role of pundit.

So I have now made my debut as a talking head online.
