I am pleased to announce the launch of Mission-Based Massachusetts, an email distribution list for topics of general interest to people who care about nonprofit, philanthropic, community-based, grassroots, and other mission-based organizations in the Bay State. It is a moderated, flame-free email distribution list that is open to anyone who is interested in the topic and willing to adhere to the basic principles of civil society. The name was chosen to include folks from all sectors, rather than just nonprofit and philanthropic professionals... more »

Wikipedia.Org Redux
by
Deborah Elizabeth Finn
on Fri 23 Sep 2005 06:10 PM EDT
Now that I've gotten religion about being a Wikipedia contributor, I'd like to invite readers of my blog to help me out by expanding on and correcting my effort to document some persons, organizations, organizations, and ideas that pertain to nonprofit technology - or perhaps I should say "to join in the fun..." more »

by
Deborah Elizabeth Finn
on Mon 19 Sep 2005 02:40 PM EDT
From the moment I first heard of Wikipedia.Org, I thought it was a great idea: a free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit. I'd like to encourage fellow workers in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector to be contributors, too. Why?... more »

Bringing It All Together for Disaster Preparedness
by
Deborah Elizabeth Finn
on Thu 15 Sep 2005 11:08 AM EDT
As a side effect of volunteering with the Katrina PeopleFinder Project, I've started to worry about future disasters, and a few of us on the team have started to think about what computer geeks can contribute toward the long term goal of preparedness. We are beginning to visualize a way to bring needs and resources together with the help of CTCnet and the Hands On Network ... more »

Telephony to the Rescue, Reuniting Loved Ones
by
Deborah Elizabeth Finn
on Tue 06 Sep 2005 11:12 AM EDT
This is a good moment for mission-based organizations to remember that a telephone system is a strategic information and communication technology system: "...Jane is looking for her missing father. She calls CLO’s toll-free number and enters his usual telephone number. She can then leave a voice message for him or listen to messages from him. When her father calls the toll-free number, he enters his own phone number. He can then leave a message for other callers to hear saying he is safe and how he can be contacted or he can listen to messages left for him..." more »
