Here's some good news for nonprofit and philanthropic professionals who wonder whether they should create blogs for their organizations:

A blog is just a tool for posting items in reverse chronological order to the web.

That's all.

It can be no more than a very simple content management system for a very simple web site.

While the stereotypical blog functions as a kind of online diary about the writer's activities, thoughts, and feelings - from a technical point of view, the content could just as easily consist of minutes from monthly meetings of a local zoning committee.

Your blog doesn't have to be personal; it just has to be the right tool for the job.
