I hate to mention it here, because there's always the possibility that my parents will read this blog entry, and they raised their daughters to be serious professionals* who don't talk that way. (Or at least, professionals who take the language they use seriously.)
However, a nonprofit or philanthropic organization that wants to learn quickly from the web design mistakes that others have made would do very well to review Web Pages That Suck. For a quick and brutal executive summary, I recommend The Biggest Web Design Mistakes of 2004, by Vincent Flanders.
We are presented with examples of web designs that look perfectly plausible to the organizations that sponsor them, even though any first-time visitor is jarred by the graphic display, or frustrated in his/her attempts to find the answer to a question, or baffled about what (if anything) the organization is trying to say about itself. Web Sites That Suck does an excellent job of not only showing the mistakes to you but also explaining what went wrong.
