![]() In the right-hand column of this blog, you'll find a list of recommended links. Unfortunately, one of the limitations of the platform I'm using is that it's difficult to create sub-categories and annotations in that column. This article is intended to rectify that... more » Wednesday, January 26

I'm grateful to the blog "Boing Boing" for calling attention to the Endangered Gizmos list of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. I gather that it's too late for the now-extinct "DVD X-Copy," but there's still time to organize a torchlight parade, hunger strike, or email campaign in support of preserving the "D/A and A/D Converters." Whenever I am speaking or writing on the topic of mission-based technology planning, I seem to end up talking about "saving the whales." Several people have asked me (or teased me) about this, so here are some reasons... more » Wednesday, January 19

![]() I worry a lot about exasperated and over-extended nonprofit workers, who often have to take on technology problems in addition to their more-than-full-time jobs. They are not even accidental techies; they are recusant techies. more » Monday, January 17

Colleagues and friends constantly send me fascinating items by email, which I of course feel compelled to post to this blog or to one or more email distribution lists. However, if I hit "forward" or "reply" to the incoming messages, the result is usually a tangled skein of unjustified lines and superfluous quote marks. What to do? more »

During the 2004 presidential election here in the USA, we saw political groups making a great leap toward successful use of the internet in fundraising, in raising public awareness of issues, and in organizing action. It's fairly easy to find trainings for computer network administrators, but very difficult to find introductions to computer networks for nonprofit executives who don't have the time or inclination to dig deep into the topic.
For this reason, Laurie Geronimo, executive director of the innovative nonprofit technology assistance provider Secure Sponsorship, encouraged me to develop this guide. more » |
