During the recent presidential election cycle in the US, we
definitely marked the emergence of what is variously known as
"electronic advocacy," "online activism," or "cyber-organizing." One of the most interesting web sites I've seen on this topic is my friend John McNutt's, which can be found his Policy Magic web site.
What I admire about John's work is the hard questions he is asking and the rigorous research that he is doing. He teaches social work policy at the University of South Carolina's College of Social Work, and is willing to ask not just "is electronic advocacy as effective as traditional advocacy?" but also "has any form of advocacy ever been effective?"
John is not only working to answer these questions, but tracking the other solid research and evaluation that is being done on electronic advocacy.
